Wind Resources Map

The map below is taken from the Wind Energy Resources Atlas of the U.S., which was prepared by Pacific Northwest Laboratories for the U.S. Department of Energy. The full atlas contains annual and seasonal wind resource maps of all 50 states plus U.S. territories.

The colors depicted in the map below rank the wind power potential of the United States into seven wind power classes, ranging from least (white) to greatest (dark blue). Wind power potential describes the suitability of areas for wind energy applications. Those areas falling into wind power class 3 (see Legend) and above are those areas which are potentially suitable for wind power production.
