GREEN POWER
Renewable, or "green,"
sources of electricity such as wind, solar, and geothermal energy
generate power without burning fossil fuels, avoiding the pollution
that causes global warming, acid rain, and smog.
Cities and counties govern many
of the day-to-day activities that determine the type and amount of energy
used by their communities. In this manner, local governments can
play a significant role in accelerating the use of renewable power
and cutting pollution.
